چکیده

Helicity transfer in a shell model of turbulence is investigated. In particular, we study the scaling behavior of helicity transfer in a dynamical model of turbulence lacking inversion symmetry. We present some phenomenological and numerical support to the idea that Helicity becomes -at scale small enougha passively-advected quantity. “oυτoι συνǫχθǫιν, αλλα συμφιλǫιν ǫφυν” ANTIΓONH “non sono nata per condividere l’odio, ma l’amore”

Turbulent dynamos with advective magnetic helicity flux

Many astrophysical bodies harbour magnetic fields that are thought to be sustained by a dynamo process. However, it has been argued that the production of large-scale magnetic fields by meanfield dynamo action is strongly suppressed at large magnetic Reynolds numbers owing to the conservation of magnetic helicity. This phenomenon is known as catastrophic quenching. Advection of magnetic fields ...

A generalized mean magnetic field induction equation for differential rotators is derived, including a compressibility, and the anisotropy induced on the turbulent quantities from the mean magnetic field itself and a mean velocity shear. Derivations of the mean field equations often do not emphasize that there must be anisotropy and inhomogeneity in the turbulence for mean field growth. The ani...

We consider the back reaction of the mean magnetic field on the magnitude of the dynamo helicity coefficient α and obtain upper limits on its magnitude from the equation of magnetic helicity evolution. When gradients in the mean magnetic field vanish, the magnitude of the turbulent EMF, and thus the dynamo coefficient α, has a stringent upper limit that depends on the magnetic Reynolds number R...

We extend and reconcile recent work on turbulence and particle heating in advection-dominated accretion flows. For approximately equipartition magnetic fields, the turbulence primarily heats the electrons. For weaker magnetic fields, the protons are primarily heated. The division between electron and proton heating occurs between β ∼ 5 and β ∼ 100 (β ≡ ratio of gas to magnetic pressure), depend...

We give best covariant amplitude decompositions for two-body decay processes involving ground state hadrons (0−, 1−, 1 2 + , 3 2 + ) and show how these are simply related to helicity amplitudes. After discussing how electromagnetic interactions are incorporated via meson dominance in a relativistic supermultiplet scheme, we extend the analysis to weak flavour changing nonleptonic processes.
